Round 4 v Petersham – Ladies Day 1 and Sponsors Day

Round 4 v Petersham

This week we’re at home against Petersham, with the fixture doubling as both our first Ladies Day of the year and Sponsors Day.

We look forward to seeing a good crowd down at Blue Giants Stadium for some cracking Autumn footy.

Round 3 recap v Knox

The trip across the bridge was a fruitful one for Colleagues, as we returned with victories in four of the six matches.

Judd staged a second-half comeback after some ‘words of encouragement’ at halftime to claim a victory that moves them into the top 4.

Burke also rallied to claim their first victory of the season over a difficult Knox side.

The Barbour Cup colts side continued their dominant start to the season with a resounding 47-10 scoreline despite being forced into a backline reshuffle after early injuries.

The colts tight five continues to impress with a dominant scrum and slick lineout enabling second rower Sam Ridley to nab two tries in a commanding performance.

In a thrilling Kentwell match, Colleagues scored a late try to claim a 33-28 win – putting a dampener on the home side’s Ladies Day festivities.

Tom Borowski was particularly strong for the Blue Giants, while Dan Kelly steered the side around the park brilliantly from no.10.

Elsewhere, Radford I were able to celebrate on the return leg of their annual trip to Wollongong Uni after claiming a 34-24 win, while Halligans beat Epping 50-5.

Diesel’s DMs

Each week we’ll reveal some of the rumours, gossip and garbage that has slid its way into Win Diesel’s DMs.

This week is a special Ladies Day edition as we canvass the rumours surrounding some of the club’s most eligible bachelors.

One such player is Jon Condon, brother of Lachlan, who formerly plied his trade at Old Iggies. Rumour has it Jon may have over-indulged following new players night on Thursday. It’s never easy establishing yourself at a new club, nor finding your way out of your brother’s shadow, but I dare say there are less painful ways to do it than running into shoulders and the door of the BoHo.

Another of the club’s dashing young blondes is Hugh ‘4-years-a-colt’ Beith. Diesel’s DMs has been informed the Radford talisman is recently back on the market and was spotted at the Grose during the week with a rum draught in one hand and his phone in the other. Let’s hope he has more luck on the left wing against Easts this weekend.

Perennial Ladies Day favourite Tom Borowski will be another vying for Colleagues’ most eligible bachelor when he takes the field for Kentwell this weekend. With his Harley Davidson and chiselled physique, Tom’s recently-single status has resulted in an 89% uplift in pre-sales for this year’s event.

While not necessarily an eligible bachelor per se, the Sutherland Cup Ladies Day Legends will definitely be a group to watch come Saturday. Blessed with the enviable kick-off time of 11am, these boys take it upon themselves to drive the club’s off field standards throughout the year. This is never more evident than at Ladies Day where – under the leadership of Ben AbrahamsCampbell Brister and Red Dog – the Suthos boys take it to another level after Benny’s 1pm rev up in the visitors changeroom.

That’s all for this week. Looking forward to a cracking day tomorrow at Sydney’s original Ladies Day.

Player Profile: Joe Yeomans

Enabling us to go behind the curtains and get to see another side of our heroes, here at Blue Giants TV, we have been lucky enough to get a sit down scoop with the leader of our colts brigade – Joe Yeomans.

Name: Joe Yeomans

Nicknames: Smiling Assassin or Fly. They call me fly because I’m pretty fly for a white guy.

Position: No 8 and captain of the Barbour breds. Some say that I fell into the job because Robin Allen did his ACL but all that matters is the big C is next to my name.

Years at Colleagues: 2

Occupation: Concreter. Some call me a concrete cowboy but that’s an absolute yarn, I’m a born and bred Walgett boy with a point to prove. Concrete runs through my right shoulder so don’t run at it if you don’t want an appointment with the rugby gods.

Likes: Ripping my shirt off at least once a day whether its on site with the boys, in the library reading one of my favourite books, just round the house with big bro Ned and my pasty bash brother Jack Lamph, or heading off to Chookies pick up a burg. Sometimes I rip the lid off when I’m out to dinner with my parents. If you’re blessed with a rig like mine you must flaunt it! I also like dropping at least one ball a game, just to keep all other pretenders on their toes. I absolutely froth an unders line, I dare you to try and stop me 5m out running an unders line!

Dislikes: I absolutely hate it when fly halves pass the ball league style as they know I find it hard to catch any pass other than a tight spiral thrown by Gibbo or Benny Miller. I hate any place that doesn’t let a young fella rip his shirt off in public, like trains, buses, ladies toilets etc.

Favourite meal: Whales, nothing is more satisfying than dining on the meat of a freshly killed Mosman whale. Their meat is sweet and juicy!

Words to live by: ‘Everyday is ladies day!’
