Round 5 v Waverley

Local Derby – Round 5 v Waverley

This week we’re heading down the road to take on Waverley across all six grades and colts.

Get down and support the lads on what is set to be a cracking Autumn day.

Round 4 recap v Petersham

As is often the case on Ladies Day, Colleagues was blessed with larger than usual matchday squads which helped the Blue Giants claim victory in 5 of the 6 grades plus colts.

After bursting out of the sheds to the sound of AC/DC, Sutherland Cup put in a clinical performance to get the day off to a cracking start with a 38-0 victory.

The next three games were much closer, with Judd Cup edging out an 8-7 victory before Whiddon prevailed 22-12 and Burke 14-0.

Keeping the shammies scoreless was no doubt particularly pleasing for the Burke Cup coaching staff whose methods have raised eyebrows across the subbies rugby scene in recent weeks.

The results speak for themselves and Burke are now closing in on 4th place Waverley on the ladder, setting the scene for an enthralling battle this weekend.

Kentwell suffered a frustrating loss to the defending premiers with countless turnovers cruelling the home side’s chances.

Over on Woollahra No.3, the Barbour Cup colts continued their strong start to the year with a 57-0 victory over their 3rd place opponents. This week also marked the conclusion of the Rawson Cup college competition with a number of Blue Giants featuring in the victorious St Andrew’s side against St Paul’s.

Elsewhere, Radford I lost to Easts 4th colts thanks to a last minute try and conversion, while Radford II narrowly went down to Mosman’s 2nd colts after they spent much of the second half with 13 men.

Halligan continued their strong start to the season with a 34-0 win over Convicts 2s.

Diesel’s DMs

Each week we’ll reveal some of the rumours, gossip and garbage that has slid its way into Win Diesel’s DMs.

This week we have an excerpt fresh out of the inbox:

From: Jack Hale
To: Winston Bradley

Hey Diesel – trust you’re well. What a ripper ladies day we had – almost my favourite day of the year man lol. Probably never going to score a meaty in front of that many chicks ever again huh..

Anyway just want to ask your opinion about this girl. She grabbed my hand during ‘Hey Jude’ and looked at me like a girl has never done before.. What should I do? Just haven’t felt like this about someone before. See you at training this week I’ll tell you her name then hehe.

Cheers

In other news, after 8 years of service to Colleagues the Taylor Twins have racked up their 100th game for the club. Unless they’ve played the exact same amount of games since 2011, it’s hard to verify exactly who it is out of the elusive pair that we can now call a centurion given their aesthetic similarities. Regardless, good onya fellas you deserve every accolade.

And in some late mail to the inbox:

Mate just a quick one about ladies day – sorry I couldn’t make it I was up in Norf Queensland with work chasing a few big micky bulls and wrangling a few bunyips ;P.

You wouldn’t believe it but there was a Barra caught in me mum’s drain pipe that ded-set wouldnta fit into one of Goochie’s red jersey bags!

… anyways I heard Jack Hale Storm fell in love at ladies day (again) ha – what a fairy bred aye!

Player Profile: Chris Knight

Enabling us to go behind the curtains and get to see another side of our heroes, here at Blue Giants TV, we have been lucky enough to get a sit down scoop with the spiritual leader of the Knight Riders – Chris Knight.

Name: Chris Knight

Nicknames: Knightsy, the Nightmare, Oiiiii Knightsy, Bealemin, KB, chief Pug, Kurtley Pugglesworth

Position: Whiddon aka the “Knight Riders” Backs coach and retired diesel mechanic

Years at Colleagues: 5

Occupation: Big swinging Lawyer. I am basically the Lewis Litt of Insurance Litigation. I have also been known to be an avid trophy enthusiast and amateur sculptor – most notably with my unorthodox techniques for testing the durability of the Judd Cup Trophy in 2015 at Sproatsy’s place.

Strengths: Crossfit guru, oversized triceps, coca-cola consumption which I drink by the litre, passing right to left.

Weaknesses: Direct sunlight, bumblebees, crusaders number one fan, passing left to right, and the fact I look like I have had a thousand Schoeey Schoeey moimoi’s when I am sober. During one game at St Pats I had the ref pull me over and request an HIA.

Words to live by: ‘MAAAAATTTTTEEE – if in doubt, get it out’

Prediction for year ahead: After a disappointing season for the Knight Riders in 2018, between myself and Bunson aka Bobby Axelrod, I think the lads are fizzed up to have a real crack this year and get themselves back into finals footy by playing a brand of real high risk, high reward Whiddon code. It all starts this weekend against our local rivals the Waverley British and Irish lions. Looking forward to seeing all you roosts down there post game for a can of Doctor.
