Knock Out Rugby for Colleagues

Do or Die for Colleagues at Prelim Semi

All but one Colleagues grade teams have survived to fight another day at tomorrow’s Preliminary Semi Final at the David Phillips Field in Daceyville. Unfortunately Colleagues Burke Cup bowed out on the ‘win differential’ rule after a 15 all draw with Petersham last Saturday. It was a mixed day for the rest of the Blue Giants sides with our Kentwell and Judd Cup sides got up over Mosman and St Pats respectively in their Minor Semi Final matches, while Whiddon and Sutherland went down to Petersham and Mosman in their Major Semi Finals.

Tomorrow the Kentwell Cup lads will take on Drummoyne who went undefeated through the first rounds of the competition this year, but have since dropped the ball, losing their last three matches of the regular season. The other tough match for the Blue Giants will be in the Judd Cup against Mosman. Rumours have it that the Whales Judd Cup side is a rekindled Shore 1st XV side from the mid 2000s with many players having spent time playing decent grade rugby in Subbies and the Premiership.

Business end of the Season for Colleagues

Colleagues into Business End of the Season

For the first time in recent years, many of the 5 colleagues grade teams playing in tomorrow’s semi finals will come into the match as underdogs not favourites.

Running out on what has been dubbed as the “Margaret Court Arena”, David Phillips No.2 Field, Colleagues Kentwell, Burke and Judd will play in the knock out semi final match against Mosman, Petersham and St Pats respectively. While Sutherland will take on Mosman and minor premiers Whiddon will play Petersham.

It’s certainly has been one of the harder fought regular seasons for the majority of Colleagues sides in recent memory. Colleagues depth has been tested but has stood up time and time again. Just last Saturday Colleagues winger Harry Martin ran out for his first Kentwell Cup match against 2016 Premiers Mosman, after starting the season in Judd Cup. Harry not only held his own but had a number of dominant runs down the left hand touch line.

#FakeNews

Today’s headlines:

* Whiddon cracks a semi, whilst spies smells “Rat” in the ranks: As the son of the former head of ASIO, Whiddon head coach, Carlos, is no stranger to spy games, which has come in handy as he tightens the screws on his finely oiled Minor Premiers. It has been revealed that whilst Carlos was away, the Rat has gone to play, reportedly offering his services to a beleaguered ‘Shammies Whiddon side who were convincingly beaten by the Magnificent Men a few weeks earlier. The bizarre turn of events only came to light during Thursday nights team talk, where club puritan, Anthony “Hebrew Hammer” Kastelan, was rallying his team mates to make a “no booze until the GF” pact to boost their already strong Championship chances. During the rant assistant coach, Mark “The Rat” Ratcliff, whilst attempting to offer his support to the pact let slip that “You only play one or two major Semi’s a season”, when the Rat was pushed on the meaning of his nonsensical outburst, he weakly postured that one “could potentially play for two teams… against yourselves”. Struct by the fear of a Rampant “rat attack” coming through his midfield, Spy Master Carlos has had to radically revamp the starting lineup, starting by shifting his original charity selection of the aspirational backrower, Mark “Manatee” Blackmore, from 8 back to his rightful home in the number 1 jersey. Not stopping there, Carlos has doubled down on his gambit to prioritise speed and ability in the backrow, by giving star flanker Richard “Harvey” Harvey a roving commission to completely disregard the booze ban enforced on the remainder of the side. The team has rubber stamped this special dispensation after it was revealed the only game Harvey played sober this year resulted in him tackling the referee, losing a shoe, and sin binning himself before half time. In related news, the Judd cup will not be following the Whiddon strategy of abstaining from Friday night “frothie tops”, and as per ritual the team will converge on Ryans bar at 4pm. Sources close to the side report that portly team number 9, Sam “I love BJ” Devine, plans to regale his team mates with stories of his sisters rugby prowess, and what “Uncle Shag Hansen” would have the Juddies do come Saturday. More to come.

* “Wizard wants a wife” successfully premiers at annual Wagga Riverina Ball: Cult hero Harry “Wizard 2.0” Martin has proven time and again this season that he certainly knows how to score, however, he was nearly found wanting recently down in Wagga with the try line wide open. What promised to be the weekend of a life time with close Mates Oli “Lulu lemon” Lembke, and Jack “Tyrion” Williams, turned into a chance to find true love for the young Wizard’s apprentice. The Wizard had foreseen a great night ahead through his crystal Bundy glass, and shortly after arriving was given a tap on the shoulder by Lemon’s missus, letting him know that her friend had taken a shine to the Wizard’s flowing blonde mane. With this knowledge and an unwavering confidence in his ability to finish, the mercurial Bourke winger pinned his ears back and proceeded to take young Tyrion and Lulu on in the “Sugar Cane Champagne Shoie” drinking challenge. Somewhere between his 6th and 10th celebretory lung dart, the Gryffindor graduate realised he still had a job to do, and turned his charms on the aforementioned female suitor. However try as he might, Harry couldn’t “alohomora” his way into the heart of his future Hermione as he reportedly was informed that “you smell like an f*cking ash tray Harry!”. This did not deter the young heartthrob, as he summoned himself a half a schooner of Listerine, and looked to take council from his only mate who knew how to hold down a bird. Unfortunately, the Lemon had squeezed all he could out of a big night, and was found passed out face down in his birthday suit. Ever the opportunist, Harry borrowed Lemo’s spare wand, returned to his Hermione and did what he knows how to do best… finish. Asked for comment on his apprentices progress, Isaac “The Wizard” Carey retorted “Did he f#$k all the b!tches?? well then, he really isn’t that much like me at all then is he”.

* Charcoal Charlies run hugely successful two for 1/4 breast meal special on Colleagues ladies day: Reports have surfaced that local Colleagues haunt for the drunk and hungry, Charcoal Charlies , has offered a deal of a life time in conjunction with Colleagues Colts to three lucky Blue Giants last Ladies day. Concerned that his gains were going to waste Kentwell lock, Evan “Bicep curl” Culhane, convinced club mates, Robbie “Till hand” Pickering and Bunsen “Red Mandella” Watson (recently returned from a “holiday” on Robbin Island, RSA), to join him for a carb and protein loading session at the famous Woollahra chicken emporium. Upon placing their orders for a 1/4 chicken breast and chips, and taking seats near some of the Colleagues colts, they quickly engaged their younger club mates in some cordial conversation about the successful day. Upon learning of Biceps impressive personal bench press record, an excited and unidentified colt challenged his female companion to compare her chest gains with the Kentwell enforcer. Despite the staggeringly impressive display, it was not enough to deter Biceps and Mandella from continuing to inhale their chicken and chips combo, but it was enough to earn the Colt and his companion a record first booting from a chicken shop. The embarrassed proprietor had clearly had enough, and pleaded for Biceps to take his awe inspiring physique elsewhere, and bribed him and his lackeys out of the shop by shouting them their dinners for free. Sources report that the lurking Kentwell flanker, Pickering, found inspiration from the surprise turn of events, took some dancing tips from Biceps’ latest journey to Ibiza, and was sighted with his “hands in the till” on the Coogee Bay hotel dance floor at 3am the following morning. For more specials like this, stay tuned to all the news from your local Colts coach.

Colleagues @ Petersham Round 11

Colleagues take on Petersham

Colleagues head to Camperdown Oval on Saturday to take on current Club Champs Petersham. The Blue Giants are currently in 3rd place, 300 points behind the Shammie and a Blue Rinse could see us jump into first place for the first time this season.

It will be no easy task though for the men in blue. Petersham are on top of us in 4 out of 6 grades, and our Kentwell Cup side are yet to get a win at this venue since Petersham were promoted to Division 1 three years ago.

With three rounds to go all Colleagues sides are in Finals contention, but will be fighting to the last round to keep it that way. Young utility forward Josh Moloney (right) will make his second start in two weeks at open side flanker for Kentwell Cup. Josh was a standout at training during pre-season and has been a consistent performer in Burke Cup even when filling in in the centres for a few injured backs.

Our 2nd Colts team are playing in the Radford Cup Grand Final on Saturday against Lane Cove. The game will be at 11:15am at Tantallon Oval, Lane Cove. If you can make it down to support our colties that would be great. Well done to the lads.

#FakeNews

* Bunsen burns, as hammer of Subbies “Mattiwoc County” Judiciary looms: A despondent Colleagues veteran, and sunscreen enthusiast, Nick “Bunsen” Watson, was recently spotted in Newtown splurging his fortnightly Centerlink minority entitlement on a pack of “Winnie Reds, bra”. This has come as a surprise to teammates, considering the diminutive nightwalker has more recently been known for annoyingly espousing the benefits of living a clean vegan lifestyle, rather than doing his job as a Bourke flanker. The flame haired socialist has made a habit in recent seasons for missing large stretches to attend Yoga retreats at various progressive liberal meccas, such as Bali and Byron bay, and was starting to hit some form as his “Chakras had now aligned with the moon in it’s fifth stage”.

Over a chai latte at BGS, the pint size pest admitted that he recently became “Lung-ry” due to the pending charges that have been leveled at him by a visiting referee from Mattiwoc County, Wisconsin (the county made famous in the Netflix smash hit “Making a Murder”). Sources close to the case report that the referee has accused Bunsen for establishing an elaborate people smuggling syndicate, resulting in the death of Nicole Brown Simpson and her “friend”, during the middle of a recent Bourke cup game. Witnesses accounts differ slightly, and it seems that the Social Justice Warrior may have been misheard upon sensing the referee was a kindred spirit of victimization, and was in fact offering him a guest speaking spot to vent at the next Bondi Communist Brotherhood party meetup. In a turn of good news, the club is happy to report that they have secured the services of Bourke Cup captain, Jonnie “Cochran” Willis, who despite not liking red heads as a general rule, has agreed that taking on the charity case of defending a minority as a “good career move”. Asked for comments, the humble solicitor confidently replied “If the Ranga does not fit, you must acquit”. More to come.

* Passionate Greek implicated in non-stereotype aligned gambling syndicate:Bourke cup coach Peter “When is Izzy back” Minocus, and Cameron “Glass shoulder” Ireland, have also faced the wrath of the referee from Mattiwoc county. In what started out as the tee up for a great pub joke: a Ranga, Greek and Irishman walk into Colleagues old boys day, has turned out to be the source material for an even greater work of fiction. Regardless, ASIO have launched a joint investigation with the Baltimore police department in to the reason why in the middle of winter, an “angry” well dressed Greek gentleman was attending a Bourke cup game, with an SJC members pass strapped to his hip. Looking at the balance of probability, which is certainly not influenced by racial stereotyping, ASIO have deduced that Minocus must be involved in spot fixing of Bourke cup games, and washing the proceeds down at the ponies. The tip was in for the ref when Minocus pointed out that Bourke cup game was over, and it could not continue indefinitely as the sun went down. The claim was supported by the Kentwell coaching staff who had their team searching for night vision googles to play the following game. This has proven ample evidence to launch a full inquiry dating back to the start of Minucos’ tenure as Bourke coach in 1998. As investigators have explored this case, it appears that the tragic death of Hae Min Lea, from Baltimore USA in 1998, is directly linked, and as such the star of season one of the podcast “Serial”, Amed Sayed, is looking at a retrial based on this new shocking evidence. Asked for comment, Sayed has stated that he expects to be available to step into the breach for the Blue Giants come finals time. In related news, sources close to Ireland are asking for his whereabouts on November 22nd, 1963, where it is believed that a fresh faced Ireland attended the Colleagues Bourke cup post season tour to Dallas Texas. Please come forward if you have any information to share with authorities.

* RegoGate – Players call foul as PowerScore results surface: Not since the glory days of the Chinese swim team have we seen such shocking results from an unsuspecting source, as what was witnessed last Tuesday night. Little could be argued about Colleagues wonder-waterboy, Nick Fletcher, topping the charts, nor about Shaun “RumMondays” Talbot rounding out the field. However, it was the surprising top 5 inclusion from club secretary and social media guru, Dave “Golden Shorts” Burnett, that has caused his clubmates to launch a formal inquiry.

Despite being regularly run down on any given Saturday from opposition props, and spending more time lecturing referees than at any breakdown, the oft injured Burnett has managed to front up on the night and out score first grade wingers “Bin Chicken” Henley, Harbo, and the human larger sink, Gily. Asked for commentary, the Bin Chicken replied “mate, after they gave me the captaincy last week, I finally cracked an invite into the red rope section, and get in a round with the Colleagues holy trinity (DB, DK and BJ), I am not gonna talk out of turn the week after finally making something of my self?!”. Playing a Trump-esque game of creating maximum social media noise, to slip his score under the radar nearly paid off for the Golden Shorts champ, and it wasn’t until he emerged from a 2 day gym session at Bondi Platinum, that Patrick “Hoppa” Aboud found that his name has some how been left off the PowerScore listings, and he in fact wasn’t registered to Colleagues any more. Stay tuned as the story unfolds.

* Canny Liverpool Boss flings recruitment net far and wide: In recent weeks footballing royalty, Jurgen Klopp, has managed to slip relatively unnoticed down at BGS scouting the next generation of footballing talent. In a desperate bid to return the title to Anfield, Klopp has decided to investigate rumors that the next Brazilian footballing prodigy was in fact hiding amongst the ranks of Colleagues Colties, and the infamous “Bermuda triangle of footballing talent”, the Dome. It has been a win-win relationship for the Colties, as Klopp has been consulting them on how to manage a 50 man roster on a weekly basis, however, he has met more resistance from the Domes benevolent leader, Kim Jong Campbell. With a team sheet that reads like a North Korean prisoner list, there was little to be gleaned from the hermit micro-nation of Judd. German-Judd relationships will go into critical crisis talks this weekend in the hope to de-escalate rising tensions of player welfare.

Colleagues @ Knox Round 9

One Shy of Blue Rinse Against Drummoyne

Colleagues were moments away from a Blue Rinse against Club Championship leaders Drummoyne last Saturday at Woollahra Oval.2.

The Kentwell Cup lads unfortunately fell 9 points shy of the undefeated Dirty Reds. The star performers of the day all came from the lower grades. Colleagues second favourite Frenchie, Louis Vetton (yes that’s right) was a cunning as a carved up the Drummoyne defence in Judd Cup’s 26-12 win, scoring two tries and setting up multiple line breaks.

For the Whiddon Cup it was the new centre pairing of Cronan Healy and Luke Brown who led from the front. The duo touched down for a try each, with flyhalf Sean Cross slotting over 3 conversions in their 26 – 10 win.

The Burke Cup backs finished off the hard work put in by the forward. Destructive second rower Darcy Hilton and veteran back rowers Dane Inman and Mark Poole caused havoc across the park. Flyhalf Damon Holmes, Inside centre Beau Meti and wing Arven Anderson all crossed the line for a try each.

Scores vs Drummoyne

Kentwell 22 – 31 Drummoyne
Burke 19- 7 Drummoyne
Barbour 28 – 0 Drummoyne
Whiddon 26 – 10 Drummoyne
Judd 26 – 12 Drummoyne
Halligan 28 – 0 Dundas Valley 6s

#FakeNews

Today’s headlines:

It has been recently uncovered that Charlie “Sul” Evans in fact longs for his succulent long locks back again. Rumours have it that the versatile back rowers’ lovely girlfriend frequently grumbled after hygiene concerns were voiced along with him not allowing her to straighten the widely renowned curls before bed. In rebuttal to these “bulldust” rumours; Sul says that whatever team he’s playing in at Colleagues – now has less chance of winning a GF without the curls and he sometimes struggles to concentrate at work without them.. It is yet to be confirmed wheather he is allowed to grow his hair again.

#Hollywood star spotted in subbies: Recent reports have surfaced that award winning American actor Liev Schreiber has been spotted training and playing lower grades at the Colleagues rugby club.

A local source “Hoppa” was quoted in the Wentworth Courier yesterday “yep he’s rocked up at training, I really don’t know what the fuss is about… he has a shit rig anyway”. Needless to say the Hollywood hunk has taken this on board with a few training laps around Rose Bay in the lead up to this Saturdays game against Knox.

Coaches were unaware that a player of this calibre was present at the club when asked by #fakenews Club Coach B Waters said “mate I honestly have no idea what is happening in the lower grades, the dome is run like f&$king North Korea”.

This development has prompted the club to send a mole to investigate what is going in the engine room of the club. B Waters has cunningly planted a loose head prop pretending to be a back rower in the Whiddon Cup team this week to gain further intelligence. More to come..

The Manatee Mumble

The blue rinse has alluded the Colleagues men this year! A close game for our Kentwell lads with the scoreline flattering an average Drummoyne side, a few critical ref calls was all that stood in the way of the Colleagues men knocking off the unbeaten dirty reds… im sure the Kentwell team will look forward to playing these guys later in the year. Despite this it was a fantastic effort by the club to right a few wrongs from the first round and boost our shot at the club championship. This week we travel to somewhere west to take on KNox Old Boys (KNOBS)… the Lions and European summer has whittled down the Colleagues numbers across the grades this week, a reminder from Thursday night training – please stick around and support the grade above you. We need all hands on deck to secure our respective positions on the ladder in the run up to finals.

We will also have a couple of tables reserved at the Woolly for those who are keen to watch the rugby.

Manatee out…

Colleagues vs Drummoyne Round 8

Grand Final Re-Match Against Mosman

It was a successful day at Blue Giant Stadium for the home side last Saturday the always formidable Mosman Rugby Club. It was the first time the clubs have met since the 2016 Grand Finals and the Kentwell, Burke and Whiddon lads all got the job done. Burke and Whiddon put on a Rugby clinic for the boys from across the harbour, notching up 95 points to Mosman’s 6. For Kentwell it was classic game of two halves. Mosman came out strong and with some lucky bounces of the ball found themselves three tries up on 25 minutes in.

But in classic Colleagues style, the Kentwell boys rallied and put on 26 unanswered points just before and after half time. The highlight coming from tighthead prop Chris Price who threw a 15m cut out pass to his front row partner Charlie Henley, surprisingly standing out on the wing, who darted down the touch line to score in the corner. Stephen Larkham would have been impressed, as were the Old Boys on the balcony.

Scores vs Mosman

Kentwell 32 – 26 Mosman
Burke 43 – 6 Mosman
Whiddon 52 – 0 Mosman
Judd 14 – 34 Mosman
Sutherland 19 – 5 Mosman
Halligan 15 – 7 Mosman
Barbour 17 – 17 Mosman

#FakeNews

Today’s headlines:

* Roving Colleagues Lion peaks early to score moral victory over the dutch: Kentwell winger, and local Irish portable larger disposal unit, Niall “Gilly” Gilhooly, has never been one to stray from contact, and true to form he hit the pubs in the sleepy harbour town of Auckland running last weekend. Typically Gilly enjoys a roving commission by Coach waters every weekend at BGS, and scouts can report that he has taken this to new heights recently by living up to the lyrics of Irish folk classic “the Wild Rover”.

As a results Jetstar stocks have plummeted due to a critical shortage to their courtesy beverage supply, as the canny Irishman exploited the little known loop hole of “No RSA over international waters”. Colleagues old boy network have phoned in varied sightings of Gilly over the weekend, starting with his smuggling of 5 liters of Jaegermeister through customs, arguing with Hostel staff over the appropriateness of drinking said Jaegermeister upon arrival, and fighting invisible enemies 12 hrs later at Eden Park. Asked for comment, Gily stated “Sure, any f*cker in a black jersey can win a bloody rogby game boi… fek it… but there is a lot to be said about drinkun the bastards unda deh table… Sure, why do you tink they call me Gily?!? cause I drink like a fish, and haven’t needed a shower in a week!”. In related news, coach Laurie Campbell recently re-stated he still won’t take Gily into Judd cup because “the #$% can’t defend and isn’t fit, when Waters and Minu get sick of him, he is going straight to Robbo with the other alcoholics”.

* “Last of the Scaffolders” narrowly avoids front row with spiffy new haircut: Following our story from a few weeks back about coach Waters genius recruitment policy of raiding local scaffolding sites, colleagues has been reduced to a thinner skeleton crew than most sites experience on Watangi day. With fellow bros Charlie “Rollerblades” McDonald and Liam “Short shorts” Nichols sidelined with a bad case of “Lions tour fever”, the pride of the shaky isles has fallen on the broad shoulders of Richard “Harvey” Harvey. As a parting gift, flat mate “RollerBlades” McDonald informed coaching staff “Chur bro, Harvey can play all across the front row aye”. Sensing blood in the water, the coaches pounced on the 89kg giant, and had him pencilled in as starting loose head in Kentwell last week. To their dismay, Harvey was one step ahead, and had invested in a “mean haircut, like that Harvey Specter dude from Suits that everyone nick names me after aye”. Colleagues legend Cam Ireland took one glance at young Harvey’s new lid and suffice to say, he Harvey has found himself relegated to the doldrums of the Judd back row to “have a long hard look at his life choices”. More to come.

*With the Australian Maccabi team now over in Israel for the 2017 Maccabi games, video has surfaced from the final fundraising dinner before the team flew out. Colleagues own Tony Kastelan can be seen in the attached video carving up the dance floor in effort to lift donations to the team. A stewardess contacted by Colleagues #fakenews revealed that Mr Kastelan spent the first leg of their trip to Tel Aviv inside the restroom and the second leg trying to recreate the same moves in the aeroplane aisle.

The Manatee Mumble

Tough game against Mosman last week with mixed results across the grades. The whales were definitely fired up with their players receiving a number of yellow cards for turning the game into a boxing match. Most notably in the Suthos and a colties matches! We will need to expect more of that this weekend when we take on the dirty reds. Expect a tough match in the forwards and a tough first 20 minutes in all grades. After the game we have a couple of tables booked in the Woolly for the Lions vs ABs so get in involved!

Colleagues vs Mosman Round 7

Grand Final Re-Match Against Mosman

Colleagues take on Mosman tomorrow for the first time since last year’s Grand Final. That day the Blue Giants battled it out against the Whales in the top 3 grades for the Premiership title, with the good guys coming through in Burke and Whiddon. We all remember how the Kentwell Cup finished so let’s not recap that.

Tomorrow it’s a slightly different story for the two clubs, with the same three grades sitting midway up their respective ladders. Drummoyne and Petersham are proving to be the club’s to beat in 2017. The Dirty Reds have only dropped one game in the top three grades thus far. That’s next week’s challenge for the Blue Giants.

Colleagues Kentwell Cup welcome back their NSW Subbies representatives into the side as well as the club’s most beautiful man, Josh “I said I loved you but I lied” Boulton. The elusive openside flanker’s form in Burke Cup in recent weeks has earnt him his first start in Kentwell this week. His mobility around the park is second only to his mobility around the lovely ladies at the Woollahra Hotel.

#FakeNews

Today’s headlines:

Given the extradition of our good friends Lindfield from last year’s Div 1 competition, a source in deep within the governing body can reveal the NSW suburban rugby union has now focused their eyes on the overall playing group, checking visas and Australian residencies in a hope to realign grass roots rugby back to the glory days. With the recent Wallabies shock loss to Scotland still taking hold from last weekend and the playing ranks reportedly in turmoil, the ARU has for the first time contacted grass roots rugby pursuing the tag line #makerugbygreatagain in hope they assist in keeping players from exiting the game. Their approach which has been endorsed by ARU’s well respected CEO Bill Pulvner, is to ‘weed out’ all expat players from grass roots rugby and really focus on the “core’ players.

With a plethora of men residing from ‘over the duch’ colleagues is currently under investigation for importing too many players not originating from Straya. A statement from the New South Wales Suburban Rugby Union (NSWSRU) chairman states: “The suburban rugby competition is focusing on key attributes in players in the 2018 season, with all players next year having to undergo written & verbal tests to qualify as a registered player”

The assessment will somewhat depict the Australian citizens test currently undertaken by refugees and immigrants, including having to explain the terms ‘thong’ and ‘gernie’ in depth, just to name a few, as well as having the ability to crush 20+ golden throat Chalmers on a Friday evening prior to game day Saturday (while still maintaining a single digit beverage consumption per facility rule). Colleagues secretary Dave Burnett provided a statement to #Fakenews “All Colleagues players are currently being consulted one-on-one with, tutoring currently being organised to ‘upskill’ our expats in Australian colloquialisms”. The NSWSRU will be rolling out the assessments in the lead up to next year’s season through an app in the coming months, and encourage all those affected to get right into it. #Fakenews tried to contact a one Mr Richard ‘SAV’ Saville (right) for comment on behalf of the New Zealand Expat Rugby Union Players Association (NZERUPA) however we have been informed he does talk to media or comment on any issues or talk at all.

Colleagues players can book in time for ‘clarification’ around these new rules and vernacular at the Woollahra hotel from Monday – Sunday from between the hours of 5pm – 12pm.

NB* Woollahra Collegues Rugby Club will happily sponsor any player emproiled in the above issues but please contact Winston ‘I’m not a first grader’ Bradley via fax only on (02) 4568 6895.

Despite wild rumours to the contrary fake news has been reliably informed that Burke cup enforcer Darcy Henry Lewis Hilton’s “FTP” leg tattoo does not in fact stand for “F%ck the Police”.  Fake News understands that Mr Hilton has been a groupie of the band Foster The People (known by all real fans as FTP) ever since they released the alternative/indie banger “Pumped up Kicks” in 2011.  On the back of this revelation Mr Hilton’s intimidation factor has taken a serious blow.  He is understood to have been sited asking for tips on how to get his fear factor back from well-known club hard man Nick “Flowers” Valentine.  Watch out Mossman.

The Manatee Mumble

Welcome back to rugby Colleagues!

With a disjointed start to the season we now have 5 weeks of games to set us up for the club championship and the run to finals. It all starts on Saturday against Mosman. The whales play a similar style to Colleagues and with the extra weeks off its going to be a tough game across the grades.

There will be beers and Wallabies/Lions on in the clubhouse so stick around and help cheer on Kentwell in a rematch of last years GF… going to be a cracking game!

Colleagues @ Balmain Round 5

Lower Grades Lead the Way Against Petersham

In a reverse of fortunes from one week earlier against Waverley, it was the Colleagues lower grade who carried the club home against a very strong Petersham Rugby Club at Woollahra Oval No.2 last Saturday.

In their year up in division 1, Petersham have come a long way to be leading the competition in Kentwell Cup and second in the Club Championship, 87 points behind Drummoyne. Colleagues currently in 4th place on 701 points.

The Sutherland Cup lads got the club off to a good start with a 50 to nil win over the visitors. Tries coming from right across the paddock, backrower James Davies (right) snagging a double and flyhalf Jon Dart kicking 6 goals in the match. The Judd and Whiddon boys had a harder day of it, only notching up 3 and 8 points respectively. That surprisingly being enough points in each of their games to beat their opponents.

For Kentwell Cup it was a classic top of the table clash with the lead changing hands multiple times throughout the match. Unlike previous matches that saw the Colleagues outside backs getting the meat pies, it was the forward pack who secured all the five pointers for the home side. No.8 Charles McDonald, second rower Evan Culhane (right) and hooker Charlie Henley all touched down for the Blue Giants. Unfortunately the loss also came with a loss to key personnel. Veteran prop David Wright unfortunately sustained a partially torn Achilles tendon in the opening scrum of the match and will miss the remainder of the season. We wish him well on in his recovery.

#FakeNews

Today’s headlines:

Sources say security in and around the Dome is loosening with reports that three more players have broken out. An insider says Charlie Lockyer, Chris Watt and some outside back known only as “Rob” have headed north to Whiddon territory. Coach Campbell refused to comment sighting that his quoted 1 dummy spit a year was spent last week at half time during Judd Cup’s scintillating 3-0 win over Petersham.

Rumours are circulating that tensions between the Colleagues backline coaches are rising, after Burke Cup coach Pete Minucos continues to insist upon selecting every flyhalf in the club in his second grade backline. Minucos was heard to have said “I’ll play Issy (Isaac ‘Wizard’ Carey) wherever the f#%k I want.” Whiddon Coach Carl O’Sullivan has reportedly reached out to his Judd Cup counterpart Laurie Campbell, enquiring if his dome supplier could build a single man dome for Whiddon flyhalf Sean Cross.

Reports have surfaced that 2017’s first application for the 100 game honour board has been provided to Club President McGrath.  Sources report that the application is in favour of Damon “Dingo” Holmes.  Despite having only played 42 games for the club Dingo is apparently confident his application will be accepted.  After a few golden throat charmers last Saturday Dingo was overheard saying “if Frank Coorey can get on there after 80 odd then I damn well deserve it after 40”.   With his shoulders having recovered from carrying Dingo through his season as Club Captain, social media advisor and club secretary David Burnett is allegedly in support of the application.

Why I rent my car out: Sam Deans explains what sharing means to him.

Sam Deans, former Whiddon cup finalist, heard about Car Next Door in July last year. Within 6 months he’d earned over $1,000 by renting out his car, helping to offset the costs of owning it.

Car Next Door is a neighbour-to-neighbour car sharing platform, founded by Colleagues member Will Davies in Bondi in 2013. The fast-growing startup is changing the way Australia travels, by turning any car into a share car through an online platform, simple in-car technology and full comprehensive insurance.

1,000 cars have been listed on the platform already, with over 35,000 borrowers screened and approved to borrow them.

“It’s so easy,” said Sam. “Car Next Door’s platform is very hands off for me. I can be anywhere in the world and still make money on my car. It sits on the street most of the time, so it just makes sense”.

Sam also received $150 to kick-start his earnings when he first listed his car, which he says was a great added bonus to get him started.

“I got some bookings right away, which was cool,” says Sam.

“I generally don’t meet the borrowers in person though – I’ve met a few, but usually they just come and go while I am doing other stuff. It’s like the Tinder of transport”.

Through Car Next Door, car owners earn $2,000 to $8,000 a year by renting out their car when they aren’t using it.  Car borrowers can instantly rent cars nearby from $5 an hour or $25 a day (plus 33 cents per km).

A Word from Winston

All grades were no doubt hard up against it last weekend. Colties had a long awaited hit out against their drinking associates from College/Uni, unfortunately letting the boys from Petersham get the better of them in a close encounter – well done for a gutsy effort gents. For Judd, our French flyer Louis Vuitton lived up to classy name on the field standing out in a tight 3-0 win, hats off to the “ice-man” Tom Scott for slotting the penalty. The Whiddos game also came down to the wire, getting the job done 8-5, stand outs were loosies Richie and Darcy.

Burke and Kentwell were put through their paces by well-drilled Petersham outfits. The standings for both comps are tight as a ducks ass as we approach the middle of the season and much needed break for two wet weather weekends after Balmain.

Cam “Evergreen” Ireland and Jono “Prince of Otago” Willis make a keenly anticipated return to the Kentwell forward pack this week. Cam and Jono not only bring some scorching pace to the team but also crucial leadership, Jono has earnt his first Kentwell Cup cap as captain this week. Their timely return will benefit the debut of former Easts enforcer Davo McCathie, welcome Davo and good luck to all for tomorrows show down.
